New Engine in 19390001

Our Vision

“The proposed Cuyahoga Falls Firefighter Memorial features a new brick masonry tower, which will display the relocated Fire Bell, along with an adjacent courtyard garden area.

The 8’x 8’ structure stands at 16’-8” high and is positioned at a 45-degree angle from Front Street, so it is visible from both north & south directions and proudly displays the Maltese cross.

The design aesthetic is reminiscent of the original Fire Station #1, displaying a prominent clay tile roof, matching face brick, arched openings and cast stone accents. Brick accent soldier coursing surrounds the large arched masonry openings allowing views at the historical bell. The band of precast concrete block located at the base of the wall helps to anchor the structure to its new environment. The tower will be illuminated with accent lighting and will serve as a new landmark along Front Street.

The tower is connected to a 64” high masonry wall which frames the small courtyard area.  Inside the courtyard, a historical plaque features the history of the bell. A separate 32” high angled masonry wall flanks the opposite side of the courtyard creating an intimate atmosphere where one can reflect on the history and memory of firefighters.  The courtyard area is accented with memorial brick pavers, which can be purchased for inscription.”

The memorial’s location will be prominent as it will occupy a space on the revitalized Front Street in historic downtown Cuyahoga Falls along the banks of the Cuyahoga River that flows to the nearby renowned Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Our memorial will be placed in front of our nearly century-old Fire Station #1 that currently serves as the Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department Headquarters and is home to our busiest company, Engine 1/Squad 1 and our Battalion Chief. Every single Firefighter that has served our city since 1927 has been assigned to Station #1 at least once during their career.

The memorial will serve as the focal piece in ceremonies throughout the year; examples would include September 11th Remembrance Day, National Fallen Firefighters Weekend, and the anniversaries of our department’s Line Of Duty Deaths (two to date). It is also planned that the memorial will be a key stop for the funeral processions of all members who have specified/requested/earned CFFD honors upon their death.
