On Sunday September 5th, 2021, the Cuyahoga Falls Firefighter Memorial Foundation held their first public fundraising event, a pancake breakfast at Fire Station #3 on Portage Trail.
Station #3 was specifically chosen as the location for the breakfast in order to also host an open house and welcome the community in to its newest fire station. Though it officially opened in late spring 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, members of the community had not had the chance yet to visit the new station. The pancake breakfast became the perfect opportunity to showcase this beautiful new building.
Though the morning started off with a light rain, it did not deter the hundreds of visitors who came out to support our organization and learn more about what we had in store. The City Fire Bell was on display for all to see, along with renderings of the new memorial, designed by local architect David Pelligra.
Visitors also had the opportunity to purchase Cuyahoga Falls Firefighter Memorial Foundation Tee shirts and raffle tickets to a special drawing where crews from all three shifts at each station contributed their own themed gift basket.
The breakfast was prepared by Chris Cakes of Ohio, and included orange juice, coffee, sausage and all-you-can-eat pancakes. Donuts were provided by Jubliee Donuts and Giant Eagle Market District.
Throughout the morning, Cuyahoga Falls Firefighters provided Station tours and gave kids tours of the fire trucks.
In the end, over $6000 was raised to help support the mission of the Cuyahoga Falls Firefighter Memorial Foundation. As a result of this success, the members of the Board have begun planning for the 2nd Annual Cuyahoga Falls Firefighter Memorial Foundation Pancake Breakfast, to be held on Saturday, September 24th, 2022. More details will be released soon. We hope to see you there!
